I'm wondering if Lobsters is going to be more of a community project or more of a commercial project, since that has a bearing on its ultimate direction. I'm asking this not so much to get a direct answer but more to elicit a discussion.
Is it all kind of just in the process of being figured out ...
I'm certain that it was a blood red (dark) not too long ago and now it's bright red. Does this mean something or am I going crazy?
Some stories are direct responses to others. For example, [error codes] is a direct response to [not leaving python]. Having an easy way to see this would be pretty neat. Not sure how it should look/feel though.

The impression that I get is that lobsters story submissions and comments have died off recently, which is a bummer, because I recently set my Hacker News noprocrast to kick me off for three days after I've looked at it for around two minutes.
What I love about lobsters is that the signal to nois...
So I saw someone mention they were hiring over in the ["What are you working on?"](https://lobste.rs/s/pu55v6/ask_lobsters_what_are_you_working_on) thread, and it made me think about the montly "Who's Hiring?" threads at HN.
I'm neither looking for employment or hiring anyone right now...but when...
Maybe a good time to remind your friends about this site and encourage participation?
After [crashing a few times](https://lobste.rs/s/q3wmvc/lobste_rs_downtime) last week, the server crashed again this evening. Since it stopped responding right at 23:00 when the cron'd backup process kicks off, it further pointed to disk issues.
As the server was completely unresponsive this tim...
Anyone want to share thoughts on the Lobster's community?
1) Are there enough members, discussion, and stories to keep you coming back? If not, how many members do you think Lobsters needs?
2) Is the content matching what you want?
3) Do you feel comfortable here? Friendly enough?
Huge shout out to @jcs for adding public views to the Lobsters metric system. You can now see breakdowns and graphs for [site requests](http://countinual.com/jcs/counters/lobsters.requests), [comments submitted](http://countinual.com/jcs/counters/lobsters.comments.submitted), [stories submitted](htt...
When submitting a link, the Submit and Preview buttons aren't visible without scrolling. However just below the textarea and to the right is a nicely highlighted link saying "Submit to Lobsters". It even has a grey outline so it sort of looks like a button. It's the bookmarklet that you can drag to ...
The way I'm used to reading lobsters is to go to /newest. After visiting /newest, and checking the ones I haven't read yet, I read the comments. I read the comments for the stories I care about, and ignore comments from stories I don't. I can get a similar experience by just reading the email, but I...
It would be a refreshing.
This is what i've got so far
Tip#1: How to get to a Production lobsters clone:
- git branch 'clone_name' && git checkout 'clone_name'
- read through the readme, and follow those steps
- bundle with sphinx and mysql commented out (for now)
- delete indices folder (or add to ....
I've been a user of Lobsters for about two weeks now, and I've noticed that discussion around articles is severely lacking. This is one aspect I enjoy most about Hacker News; there's usually some thought provoking discussion around the articles that often give you a view of the other side of whateve...
I thought it might be interesting to have a "Planet" for Lobsters (in the style of [Planet GNOME](http://planet.gnome.org/), [Planet Mozilla](http://planet.mozilla.org/), etc.). It would be fairly easy to implement; just define an extra field in the user profiles for a weblog RSS feed. There could...
When communities get too big, then they fall apart. Today, I was just thinking to myself: "What would happen if Lobsters had a user limit"? That got me poking around the Internet.
Lobsters has 3293 registered users today: http://lobste.rs/u
Here's an interesting series of articles about online...
Scrolling through the meta tags, they seem to be mostly asking for stuff (I'm as guilty of that as anyone!), or occasionally discussing the site's theory-of-community. What are some of the little touches that you appreciate about the site?
For instance, I just noticed that the tags are divided in...
Is there any interest in making Lobsters degrade gracefully so it can function correctly without javascript?
Currently many features do not work without javascript, such as upvoting, flagging, replying/previewing.
If there is interest from jcs and the community I would gladly submit some pull requ...
I've noticed sometimes its a darker or brighter red. Or am I just going nuts?
I would like to be able to continue conversations, but sometimes I suspect the people I'm responding to aren't even aware that I said something, probably because they're not religiously checking the Your Threads link on top as I do to see if anyone replied to me. :-)
I don't know if people prefer...
Sorry if this was answered somewhere before, but I tried searching the site with no luck.
I like dark websites, so I made a dark theme for lobsters for use with the stylish chrome plugin. Feedback would be appreciated.
Open question to the greater community: would you all be interested in an official irc channel, with the same focus as Lobsters? The invite-only system has been pretty successful so far and has resulted in a very likable, homely community, which I think would make for a great channel environment. If...
I searched and only [post](https://lobste.rs/s/r73jlz/show_lobsters_a_lobsters_iphone_app_i_ve_started_working_on) I could find was 2 years old.
So, is there any API?
Due to user feedback, ##lobsters on Freenode is no longer invite-only, and the channel has been repurposed. It primarily exists:
- As a real-time companion to lobste.rs, with the same focus on general computation.
- As an extension of the lobste.rs community, which most would recognize as being ...
Hi there.
Is there a bookmarklet I can use for the Lobsters site?
